Every now and then, a lesser-known manufacturer comes out with a product that blows away the competition and the more well-known brands. The Status ProX wireless earphones are exactly that product!

New York-based Status Audio is a company that aims to combine aesthetics and top-notch engineering. It previously introduced the Betweeb 3ANC and Between Pro, featuring three drivers and technological features borrowed from the most innovative hearing aids.
In 2025, Status Audio began talking about its new Pro X earphones. After almost a year, the Pro X are finally available, and they're a surprise.
The world of wireless earbuds is incredibly popular, and conquering the market is also a matter of subjective user response. Then there's the objective aspect, which includes the quality of the connection and audio playback, the included features, the controls, the control app, and battery life.

Technical data

Status Pro X uses two Knowles balanced armature drivers—metal transducers for reproducing mid and high frequencies, which are used in professional stage earphones and hearing aids—and a third 12mm driver for low frequencies. Essentially, it's a three-way system without the need for a low-frequency boost. All this while remaining smaller than previous Status models: the earphones themselves are 21% smaller and the case is 11% smaller.

Status Pro X uses a Bluetooth 5.3 chipset with Bluetooth LE Audio support, LC3 codec, and Auracast protocol. Pro X uses an LDAC codec up to 990 kbps and 24-bit/96 kHz encoding (SBC, AAC), which has allowed it to obtain High Res Wireless Audio certification. Active noise cancellation, increasingly effective at low frequencies, reduces noise up to -52 dB.
Status Pro X's ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) technology uses three microphones in each earbud to reverse the polarity of the signal picked up from the outside, through the internal DSP, and sends it to the drivers to achieve ambient noise cancellation. The DSP, of course, works best for any low-frequency sound, canceling out car engine noise, road noise, and other sounds, such as airplane rumble, very well. Those who have been using wireless earbuds with active noise cancellation for a while know how useful this feature is.
Both earphones have a touch-sensitive area and a button, with the option to freely map the functions from the app. Bluetooth also features a multicast function, allowing you to connect up to two Bluetooth devices with Android Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair, and GPS tracking in case the earbuds are lost.
Wireless charging is handled by the case, thanks to support for Qi Wireless Charging. Status claims battery life of up to eight hours, which increases to 24 hours using the case's battery.
Hidden within the earphones are optical sensors that detect when the headphones are being worn and activate them. Last but not least, the Pro X are IP55 certified for water and dust resistance.

Finally, the package includes a small USB-C charging cable and three pairs of silicone eartips (S, M, and L).
The elegant, hard, glossy plastic case houses and stores the two earbuds, allowing you to charge them, pair them to your device by holding down the case button for a few seconds, or reset them. An LED indicates the remaining battery life when you open the case, changing color from white to red when the charge is below 10%. The case can be charged with the included USB-C cable or using a Qi wireless charger.
Finally, it's worth mentioning Voiceloom Ai Speech Enhancement, a feature implemented to improve call quality by intelligently isolating your voice from ambient noise. Status has used, under license, an algorithm to improve voice isolation using a neural network.

Status Hub App

Available free for iOS and Android, it's the gateway to DSP programming and updates. It allows you to choose between three types of noise reduction: Active ANC, Off, and Ambient, which uses the microphones to add ambient sound to your listening experience, with three different volume levels.

The most interesting part is the EQ settings: five curves are provided as standard, including the Knowles curve, which, according to the manufacturer's measurements, sounds better to the listener's ears. The Knowles curve was born from a series of tests, with the collaboration of Harman, to evaluate whether the Harman curve, which is the basis of the Pro X's frequency response, could be further improved. The difference is entirely in the highest part of the spectrum, as you can see from the image below.

The EQ isn't particularly subtle, as you can see from the screenshot, with a full 12 dB more for the 14 kHz band. As you adjust the EQ, the app adjusts the overall level accordingly to maintain headroom and avoid distortion. You can create your own curves and save them as you like: the eight bands have a range of +/- 12 dB and fixed frequencies (30, 73, 176, 423, 1,000, 2,400, 5,800, and 14,000 Hz).

The app also allows you to activate touch controls on the earphones and remap the controls, independently or in the same way for each earbud, with Play, Pause, Previous Track, Next Track, Disable, Volume Down, Volume Up, ANC/Transparency, and Disabled functions. There are no limits to using the functions, even with multiple taps. The physical button cannot be freely assigned and has the same functions for both earbuds. It includes:

  • Single click: Noise Canceling/Transparency
  • Double click: Voice Assistant
  • Click on both earphones for more than 3 seconds: Power Off

The latest features are dedicated to the loss of the earbuds, which can be identified by making them ring or on a map, the alert sound when changing functions and the enabling of Multipoint connection for up to two devices.

Field Test

The Status Pro X earphones were a surprise from every perspective. Their aesthetic is hyper-technological and certainly doesn't go unnoticed with that shiny area. Once you put them on, you forget you're wearing them: they're light enough not to be bothersome, but also capable of passively separating the external environment, with a good fit of the two silicone eartips.
Surprising is the right word for the Status Pro X: the sound is reminiscent of a well-calibrated three-way studio monitor. The bass is natural and very present, but without the clunkiness or intrusiveness of an equalizer, the mids are precise, and the high frequencies are not irritating or harsh. The quality of reproduction gives the impression of wearing a pair of professional headphones, such as Neumann or Audeeze. The Harmann curve, on which the Pro X are also based, is pleasantly improved with the Knowles setting, which amplifies the very high frequencies and slightly reduces the intrusiveness of the low frequencies. The EQ is particularly efficient: just a few fractions of a dB are enough to significantly change the response: the ability to save your own curves allows you to use the Pro X for different musical styles.

The first aspect of reproduction is the ambience: the Pro Xs are not at all dry and seem to enhance reverbs, delays, and any other information about the environment, whether natural or artificial. Meanwhile, it's almost incredible to hear such deep and natural bass, which is the absolute strong point of these earphones. The reproduction of the double bass, kick drum, or timpani is full, precise in attack, and above all, it goes very low, with the same sonic impression you get when using a subwoofer in studio. For the listener, it's pure pleasure. For the professional, it's an important tool for evaluating the mix. It's easy to follow the kick drum and bass and evaluate how they sound. If you switch to soul, R&B, funk, or upbeat, the Pro Xs sound very American: the bass is sometimes so far forward in the mix that it's best to tweak the EQ, raising the high frequencies or reducing the 30 Hz.
EDM, dance, and electronic music in general are fields where the Pro X roam without any hesitation. The individual details of the modulations and percussive sounds are all amply represented. If you move on to rock, of any genre, you notice a behavior that is always present in the Pro X even in other genres: they are never violent in their response to dynamics or transients. They have a certain gentleness in their treatment of the sound, as if there were a minimum of processing on the dynamics. This character enhances the listening of orchestral and classical music, with a very fluid image of the dynamics without harshness in the transients. The Pro X certainly have their own sound, very pleasant thanks to the frequency extension, and you will fall in love with this sound.

For those accustomed to working in the studio, the Pro X reproduce, with a different equalization, the studio experience in terms of frequency response. For those who simply love listening to music, the subjective experience is very gratifying and even surprising, due to the quality of bass reproduction. The general public will probably discover with the Pro X what it means to listen to high-quality listening with a frequency extension far greater than the norm.

The microphone quality is also noteworthy, as it appears to be DSP-processed to produce a clearer sound when recording.
Apart from that, we don't have much to add: the case, accessories, build quality, App, and various features are state-of-the-art, including ambient noise cancellation. We preferred to tweak the EQ and assign touch functions that require prolonged contact, so as not to accidentally touch them. We have no complaints about battery life, under normal dayly use. They worked from morning to night without needing to be recharged.

Conclusions

Kudos to Status: the Pro X are among the top ten best wireless earphones of the moment, with obsessive attention to detail. They're purchased for their excellent sound reproduction and loved for the features that have made wireless earbuds so popular. We have a new big player among the wireless earphones manufacturers!
